Yeshayahu Ilan, architect and university lecturer, was born in Austria in 1931, and died in Israel in 1999. His architectural work includes dozens of religious buildings, public buildings, and educational buildings. He also developed and researched unique engineering solutions that formed an original architectural language which is associated with him. Ilan collected and preserved his archive throughout his career, covering 1951 to 1999. In 1952, he began studying architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, and received both B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees. Between the years 1965-1990, he was a partner in the "Yeshayahu Ilan - Gideon Adereth Architects and Town Planners" firm together with architect Gideon Adereth, and later with architect Dov Galia. The archive contains: materials related to projects designed by Ilan including synagogues, schools, university buildings, and Ministry of Defense projects. The archive contains hundreds of plans and drawings, dozens of photographs of architectural scale models, academic documents, and publications referring to projects planned by Ilan, such as the master plan for Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Yeshivat Hesder Tzfat, and the Yeshivat Hesder Otniel (also Beit Va'ad LaTorah). The archive also contains academic articles authored by Ilan, drafts of his master's thesis - "Architectural space concepts in Halakhaic thought in the Mishnah and Talmud" - as well as documents and photographs produced during his undergraduate studies. After his death in 1999, ownership of the archive was transferred to his family and kept in their home in Jerusalem. In 2022, the archive was deposited with The Avie and Sarah Arenson Built Heritage Research Center at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
