The Sila of Laos inhabit a few villages in Ou Nua and Sam Phan districts of Phongsali province. There are also a few hundred Sila people in northwestern Vietnam near the Laos border. Vietnamese anthropologists believe that the Sila of Vietnam migrated from Phongsali province of Laos to Muong Te in Lai Chau province in Vietnam in the 1830s. From where and when they originally migrated through Yunnan province of China to Laos is unknown. So far there are no reports about the existence of Sila people in China)
