| מקובל לראות את ראשית תקופת הההעפלה עם בואה של ספינת המעיפילים "ולוס" בחודש יולי 1934. בעקבות אירועי "ולוס" כתב י. שנהר את "עולים". השיר הולחן על ידי שלום פוסטולסקי בשנת 1934. פרסומו הראשון של השיר בתוים נעשה בגלוית זמר של הקרן הקימת לישראל. |
