Ze'ev Aleksandrowicz (1905-1992) was born into a well to do family in Krakow, Poland. In the 1920s he took numerous photographs of Poland and other countries that he visited, such as Switzerland and Italy. At the beginning of the 1930s Aleksandrowicz purchased a pair of new Leica cameras, which he used to document his visits to countries around the world including Japan, Egypt, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Singapore and the United States. Between 1932 and 1935 he visited Israel three times and took thousands of photographs. His photographs from this period were discovered by chance by his sons in 2003 and were given to the National Library to be scanned and made accessible. The Aleksandrowicz photograph collection in the National Library comprises 15,000 photographs that were taken by him in Eretz Israel between 1932-1936. Read more
