Zvi Hecker, architect and artist, was born in Krakow, Poland in 1931. He immigrated to Israel in 1950 and died in Berlin, Germany in 2023. Hecker and his family collected and preserved most of his archive materials, covering 1959-1990, from his partnership between 1960-1964 with architects Alfred Neumann (1900-1968), and Eldar Sharon (1933-1994); his subsequent work as an independent architect. As of 1990, Hecker managed a firm in Berlin in parallel with his activity in Israel. Hecker's works, both in architecture and painting, are displayed in museums and galleries around the world. Hecker won international recognition and became known for his unique concept that architectural form is a result of precise thinking that surpasses dealing solely with form. Among the prominent projects planned by Hecker are the Bat Yam Municipality city hall, the Dubiner House, and the Spiral House ("Beit Haspirala") in Ramat Gan - all three are represented in the archive - as well as the Heinz-Galinski-Schule - Jewish school in Berlin, and the Royal Dutch Military Police Campus near Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The archive represents Hecker's years of activity in Israel. Archival materials are arranged by projects, and contain documentation of dozens of projects in the public and private sectors including: Training Base 1 officer school in Mitzpe Ramon, the Danziger building at Technion, the Club Mediterranée holiday villages in Achziv and Mikhmoret, and the Palmach Museum in Tel Aviv. Archival materials include: Hecker's original drawings, models, blueprints, plans, photographs, slides, correspondence, audio and video tapes, periodicals, and publications. The archive also holds several items, dating from 1938, from the early career of architect Alfred Neumann.
