היסטוריה ארכיונית: חומרי ארכיון שמואל (שמוליק) סגל נאספו ונשמרו בידי אלמנתו נדיבה סגל (שנפטרה בשנת 2020) וילדיהם בין השנים 1945–2008. במהלך הצטברותו מרבית חומרי הארכיון סודרו בקלסרים ואלבומים לפי יצירות, אך חומרים נוספים לא מוינו. לאורך השנים לא הופקו לארכיון עזרי איתור או קטלוג. בשנים 2019–2020 הארכיון סודר, נרשם והומר למדיה דיגיטלית במסגרת מיזם "האוסף הלאומי הדיגיטלי בתחום התיאטרון" בניהול הספרייה הלאומית. במסגרת הטיפול בארכיון חולקו החומרים לשתי חטיבות: חומרים מקצועיים וחומרים אישיים, בהתאם לחלוקה המקורית בעת איסופם. (1) חטיבת חומר מקצועי נוגעת לפעילותו המקצועית של סגל כשחקן תיאטרון, קולנוע וטלוויזיה וכקריין וזמר. החטיבה מחולקת ל־13 סדרות, ש־10 מהן מסודרות לפי סוגי החומרים: חולפות של הצגות שבהן השתתף, רובן מתיאטרון הבימה, קטעי עיתונות על אודות סגל, תצלומים ואלבומים, קריקטורות, מחזות משנות פעילותו בתיאטרון, מכתבים רשמיים, הקלטות רדיו בהשתתפות סגל או שעסקו בו, קטעי וידיאו ואודיו וכן חומר מקצועי דוגמת אביזרי במה ועבודה אקדמאית שנכתבה עליו. שלוש הסדרות הנוספות בחטיבה מוקדשות לפעילותו בלהקה הצבאית, כולל מחברת זיכרונות, תצלומים, קטעי עיתונות ואיורים
למופעים מוזיקליים ותקליטים הקשורים לפעילותו כזמר וקריין, כולל גם עשרות קטעי אודיו

סדרה של חומרי וידיאו ואודיו אישיים ששמר סגל מאירועים משפחתיים ואישיים. הארכיון נרשם ונסרק באופן מקיף, למעט פריטים כפולים, פרסומים וגזרי עיתונות שנרשמו באופן בסיסי ולא נשלחו לסריקה. עבודת הרישום הניבה רשימת מיזמים מפורטת ורשימת מוסדות ואישים שעבדו עם שמואל סגל, ובהם שמואל רודנסקי, שמואל עצמון־וירצר, התזמורת הפילהרמונית הישראלית, תיאטרון גיורא גודיק ותיאטראות הבימה ובית ליסין. בשנת 2021 הופקד הארכיון במרכז הישראלי לתיעוד אמנויות הבמה (מילא״ה) באוניברסיטת תל אביב.

Archive history: Shmuel (Shmulik) Segal archival materials, spanning 1945-2008, were collected and preserved by his widow, Nediva Segal (died 2020), and their children. While being collected, most of the materials were arranged in binders and albums by name of work, but other materials were not sorted. Throughout the years no finding aids or catalogs were produced for the archive. In 2019-2020, the archive was sorted, cataloged, and converted to digital media as part of the project "The National Digital Collection of Theater Archives" managed by the National Library of Israel. Archival processing divided the materials into two fonds: professional materials and personal materials, according to their original division at the time of their collection. (1) The professional material fond relates to Segal's career as a theater, film, and television actor, and as a narrator and singer. This fond is divided into 13 series, 10 of which are organized by type of material: ephemera from plays in which he participated, most from the Habima National Theater, press clippings about Segal, photographs and albums, caricatures, plays from his years in theater, official letters, radio recordings with Segal or about him, audio clips, and video clips, as well as professional material such as stage props and academic works about Segal. The other three series in this fond are dedicated to his activities in the IDF military entertainment troupe, including a notebook of memoirs, photographs, press clippings and illustrations
musical performances and records related to his activities as a singer and narrator, including dozens of audio clips
a 1993 documentary film about him, including, among other things, a video recording of the film, interviews with colleagues and family. (2) The personal material fond includes four series organized by type of material: a series of photographs and family albums, containing documentation from personal events such as Segal's birthdays
a series of letters and postcards received and sent by Segal and his family members over the years
a series of materials created in his memory after his death, including a book of memoirs, albums and obituaries
a series of personal video and audio materials from family and personal events, kept by Segal. The archive was cataloged and scanned comprehensively, excluding duplicate items, publicity, and press clippings that were cataloged at core-level, and were not scanned. Cataloging yielded a detailed list of projects and a list of institutions and individuals who worked with Shmuel Segal, including Shmuel Rodensky, Shmuel Atzmon- Wircer, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Giora Godik Theater, the Habima National Theater, and Beit Lessin Theater. In 2021, the archive was deposited with The Israel Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts at Tel Aviv University.
