Shmuel (Shmulik) Segal, theater, television, and film actor, narrator, singer, moderator, winner of the Ophir Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1995, and winner of other awards in the performing arts, was born in the city of Zlotow in Galicia, Poland in 1924, and died in Tel Aviv in 1997. Segal's archive contains materials collected and preserved by his family members from 1945 to 2008, covering his years of activity and even posthumously, beginning with his studies at the Habima Theater drama school, his military service in the IDF military entertainment troupe, through five decades of professional activity, until his death, along with materials created and collected by his family between 1997 to 2008, that deal with his death and commemoration. Archival materials include: ephemera, photographs, press clippings, albums, illustrations, audio clips, and video clips, plays, letters and postcards, and are classified as either professional materials or personal materials. The wide variety of archival materials reflect Segal's many years of work as a theater actor in numerous Habima productions, as a film actor, as a member of "The Three Shmuliks" ensemble together with Shmuel Rodensky and Eliyahu Goldenberg (and later with Shmuel Atzmon-Wircer), as a narrator at Israel Philharmonic Orchestra concerts, and as a musical performer. The personal materials in the archive, covering his lifetime and posthumously, shed light on his personality, his family, and the many creators with whom he worked. In 2021, the archive was deposited with The Israel Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts at Tel Aviv University.
