Front Text - Edition Niddam et Assuline, Fez (Maroc);Text on the back -Carte Postale:Correpondance - Adresse;Back Printed Text Translation - Postcard:Correspondence - Address;Production period - ca. 1912;Front Period - ca. 1912;Category - Historic sites;Description - This vertical postcard depicts a photograph of an historic event which occurred between the 17th and the 19th of April 1912 in Fes -- two weeks after the establishment of the French Protectorate, there was a revolt. As a result, the Mellah (a walled Jewish quarter of a city in Morocco, an analogue of the European ghetto) was destroyed, houses and shops were burnt, Jews were deprived of their possessions (jewels, pieces of furniture, crockery, clothes etc.). They went to get refuge in the cemetery of the Mellah as well as in the enclosure of the Sultan's Palace. The postcard shows the Jewish refugees - men, women and children - grouped together at the Dar-El-Makhzen (the Royal Palace), at the first Mechour (a place mainly existing in Maghreb and in particularly in Morocco. It served as a place for pledging of allegiance to the Sultan). In the foreground we can see two Jewish Moroccan, traditionally dressed: They wear&;Back Handwritten Text - 20 -
