תקפם של האיסורים בעבר ובהווה: זה לעומת זה. כרוז ובו נוסח של שני "איסורים": החרם על החסידים, שהוכרז בווילנא בשנת תקל"ב, ומולו נדפס "איסור על אחינו... האשכנזים... לבל ילמדו בבתי ספר (הנק' שקאלס)", בחתימת ר' שמואל סלאנט, ירושלם, ז אדר תרנ"ו. מדפיסי הכרוז בקשו להראות שכפי שהחרם על החסידים לא השיג את מטרתו ופג תוקפו, כן גם האיסור על לימודים בבתי-ספר מודרניים החרם על החסידים: "אחינו בית ישראל הלא ידעתם חדשים מקרוב באו אשר לא שערום אבותינו, שנתחברו כת חשודים (חסידים) ... ועושים אגודות לעצמם... ע"כ [על כן] ראשי עם יעטו כמעיל קנאה... להשמיד לבער ולהשמיע עליהם קול חרמות ושמתות... וכשם שעקרנו מן המקום הזה [ווילנא] כן יעקרו מכל המקומות... ". חותמים: "פרנסי ישראל בק"ק ווילנא... ובצרוף... אב"ד דקהלתנו, ובצרוף... החסיד מו"ה אלי' נ"י ובצרוף שני כיתות דיני היושבים כסאות למשפט פה קהלתינו, יום א ר"ח אייר תק"לבית". נדפס על נייר בצבע אדום. This anonymous broadside lampoons the Jerusalem rabbinate for continuing to issue prohibitions against the establishment of modern schools (see, for example, above, Cat. 361). The document juxtaposes the most recent ban against these schools, issued Friday, 7 Adar 5656 (February 21, 1896) by Rabbi Samuel Salant, with another very famous rabbinic ban issued over a hundred years earlier, in 1772 in Vilna, against the emerging Hasidic movement. The implicit argument being made is that just as the Vilna ban did not succeed in stamping out Hasidism, so, too,the Jerusalem bans would fail to suppress the modern school movement.
