אגרת לנדיבים מאת חכמי חברון בדבר שליחותו של ר' חיים אברהם ישראל זאבי לאירופה המערבית, בעקבות החיד"א. חתומים: ר' מרדכי רוביו, ר' חיים יהודא גומץ פאטו, ר' נחמיה גדילייא, ר' רפאל שבתי הכהן, ר' יששכר חסון, ר' נסים אברהם באגאייו, ר' מנחם יוסף חיים זאבי, ר' יעקב תורגימאן, ר' נסים עובדיא ור' אליה יהודה קשטיל. בשולי אגרת השליחות: דברי חיזוק מאת פקידי חברון שבקושטא, "בשליש התיכון לח' אדר ראשון משנתינו... ב'י'ש'ר'א'ל' [תקמ"ג]". חתומים : ר' יצחק זונאנה, ר' רפאל אברהם אשכנזי ור' אברהם קצבי, ומאת רבני קושטא: ר' רפאל יצחק ירושלמי, ר' חיים יעקב המון ור' ישעיה שלמה קמחי. כמו כן נדפסו דברי חיזוק מאת ר' חיים יוסף דוד אזולאי (חיד"א), ליוורנו תקמ"ד. על שליחות זו עיין: א' יערי, שלוחי ארץ ישראל, ירושלים תשי"א, עמ' 595. מהאגרת: ... זה שנתים ננעלו לפנינו דלתות העזרה... ולא מצאה ידינו לפרוע פרעות... והני נש"י [הנושים המוסלמים] נצבו כמו נד וחרב פיפיות בידם לטבוח ישרי דרך... ועל הכל צרת בתינו וטפינו העטופי' ברעב... ר' חיים אברהם ישראל זאבי ה"י ההולך בשליחותינו... להציל. In 1782, Rabbi Hayyim Abraham Israel Ze'evi was appointed by the Sephardic community of Hebron to raise funds on its behalf throughought Western Europe. His endeavors brought him to Livorno in 1784, where he undertook the printing of this broadside. It includes the text of his original 1782 appointment by the leaders of the Hebron community, as well as several additional supporting letters. Two of these letters were composed in 5543 (1783) in Constantinople, while the third was written in 5544 (1784) in Livorno by Rabbi Hayyim Joseph David Azulai, who was himself a former fundraiser on behalf of the Hebron Jewish community. Copies of this appeal for funds were meant to be sent to important Jewish community leaders. The present copy was directed to Meir Treves, whose name was filled in by hand.
