Jews in the Underground in Belgium during World War II; The Rescue of Jewish Children in Belgium during World War II; The Rescue of Children from Germany, Czechoslovakia and Austria via Western Europe, 1933-1940

Member of Right Poale Zion and the C.D.J. The distribuition of financial aid to the underground; the C.D.J.; the Judenrat. Born in Berlin, 1926. Member of Dror youth movement. Living in Antwerp at outbreak of WWII. When parents sent to Auschwitz moving to Brussels where she joined the Jewish underground as a contact person. Passing on food, clothing and medical suplies to people in hiding, as well as counterfeit papers prepared in cooperation with the Belgian authorities. Jews responding at first to AJB (Belgian Jewish Committee) announcements to report to work thinking they would be rescued that way by in due time disillusioned and searching for hiding places instead. Motives for hiding Jews varying from anti-German or political-communist to financial or simply human. Sources for funds interviewe used to pass on were the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in Switzerland and the AJB. This was one of the ways for cooperation between the Jewish underground and the Jewish Committee. But main contact was between the members themselves. Underground members prefered to work also for the Jewish Committee mainly for coverup purposes.
