Riki Ben-Ari, illustrator for books, newspapers and magazines, artist, fashion designer, and fashion trend forecaster, was born in Tel Aviv in 1936, and died in 2007. Ben-Ari collected and preserved her archival materials throughout her career, covering the 1950s to the 1990s. After her death, the archive was kept by her family. The archive contains: sketches, illustrations and designs created by Ben-Ari for press articles, book covers, catalogs, items, and clothing outfits. The archive also includes photographs, lists and documents relating to her extensive activity in fashion, both in Israel and abroad, as an independent designer, fashion illustrator and fashion trend forecasting consultant. While being collected, the archive was not organized, and no finding aids or catalogs were produced. In 2021, a representative sample of the archival materials was sorted, cataloged, and converted to digital media as part of the project "The National Digital Collection of Design Archives" managed by the National Library of Israel. The selected materials contain works from her main areas of activity, including illustrations created for books and press articles, fashion illustrations and sketches created when designing clothing items and outfits, press articles authored by Ben-Ari or articles about her, sometimes with her illustrations, as well as documents relating to her activity as a fashion trend forecasting consultant for the Israel Export Institute. The representative selection also includes posters, calendars, ads, and postcards designed by Ben Ari, as well as certificates she received, contracts and lists she compiled.
