Liner notes from cd: "These songs are mostly from a collection called “American Yiddish Penny Songs by Morris Rund and others” which I found at Hebrew Union College as a microfilmed box of deteriorated broadsides sold by peddlers on the streets of the lower East Side around the turn of the 20th century. Advertisers took space on these songsheets to proclaim the virtues of their restaurants, photography services, and - especially - availability for prophecy and mind reading. I spent many long hours cleaning these songsheets up and turned them into a paperback by the same name (available, with this cd and many other delights, from http://YiddishEmporium.com). I wasn't intending to make a cd out of the tracks I've been recording for Youtube - they are raw, exactly as I recorded them in my living room, without being properly mixed or mastered - but they are becoming so numerous it was the easiest way to keep track of them. There is more information about each of these songs, also pictures and more attributions, on the companion blog http://YiddishPennySongs.com - also feel free to email me if you have questions, comments, corrections, or additions. I know my renditions aren't perfect! Jane Peppler, September 2015" לפרטים נוספים ולמילות השירים פנה אל תיקיית הפריט. |
